Abstract

210,798. Henschel & Sohn, Ges. Feb. 3, 1923, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Surface condensers. -The tubes of a surface condenser for locomotives a r e cooled by water trickling over them in counter-current to a blast of air, so that the water on leaving the tubes is cooled practically to its original temperature. The steam is condensed in tubes 4 and the water is drawn from a chamber 14 by a rotary pump 12 and forced through a pipe 11 and headers 10 to perforated tubes 8, whence it falls over the pipes 4 to the chamber 14. The air is directed over the tubes by blades 16 inclined at their outer ends in the direction of the running of the train, and bent at their inner ends to be at right angles to the tubes 4. The air is withdrawn through pipes 19 by a pump 18 and delivered to the atmosphere. The whole is so mounted on the front of the engine as not to obstruct the view of the driver in the cab.
