Abstract

210,699. Original Patents Co., and Devlin, C. July 5, 1923. Packeting pills &c. in receptacles.- Relates to apparatus for filling glass tubes, boxes, &c. with pills or the like, and inserting a cork. The pills are contained in a hopper 1, Fig. 1, at the base of which a rotatable disc 6 is mounted on a spindle 16 and is normally held by a spring in a casing 15 so that apertures 7 are in the inoperative position beneath a flanged plate 8. The disc is partially rotated, from a treadle &c. attached to a hook 24, by a cord 19 attached to an arm 18, and returns beneath the plate 8 with a predetermined number of pills in the apertures 7, which fall into a trough 10 and collect in a tubular extension 11, Figs. 1 and 6. A sleeve 13, apertured at 14, slides in a guide 12 on the extension and normally arrests the pills. A glass tube &c. is placed on a sliding table 26 and in an aperture 25 at the base of the guide 12, thereby raising the sleeve so that the aperture 14 registers with the extension 11, and allows the pills to fall into the glass tube. A cork is placed in a collar 30 on a plate 31, and, on the descent of a sliding framework 21 carrying a plunger 28, a lever 41 turns anticlockwise under the action of a spring 42 and draws the plate 31 to the right so that the cork is in the path of the plunger, the continued descent of which forces the cork into the tube. At the same time a slide 36 is moved to the left by a link 37 on the arm 18, and a hook 34 engages an abutment 35 on the plate 26 supporting the bottle. On the return stroke, the plate 26 is drawn to the right and the bottle &c. falls out of the machine, a bar 39 causing the hook 34 to disengage the plate 26, which returns to the left under the action of a spring 27. The top of the frame 21 carrying the plunger 28 on its return stroke forces the lever 41 and the plate 31 into the original position. A shield may be disposed in front of the frame 21 to protect the operator.
