Abstract
210,578. Royce, F. H. Dec. 6, 1922. Dynamos and magnetos, driving.-In tensioning means for driving-chains, particularly applicable to systems for connecting the crank shaft, cam shaft, and dynamo shaft of internal combustion engines, the dynamo shaft also driving the water pump and magneto, a tension wheel b<2> is moved automatically to correct tensioning-position and is clamped in that position. The crank shaft a<1> and cam shaft a<2> are connected by a chain passing over the wheel b<2>, which is formed with two integral sprocket rings. A second chain connects the dynamo shaft a<3> with the other section of the wheel b<2>. The wheel b<2> is carried on a bar b, which slides on the casing a and is slotted at each end to receive bolts a<4>, a<5> secured in the casing. The bolt a<5> is shrouded by a block b", against which bears a spring b<14> pocketed in the arm b. Nuts b<5>, b<16> on the bolts a<4>, a<5> are loosened to allow the spring to press the arm to the desired tensioning position and are tightened to clamp the arm in position. Locking rings b<6> may limit the loosening of the nut b<5>.
