Abstract

Apparatus for the point or line discharge of plastic materials, preferably confectery or bakery materials, consits of a housing 1 having a hopper, a valve 2, a cylinder which receives material from the hopper via the valve 2, a piston 4, a discharge pipe 3 and a movable support 5 for receiving the discharged material. When the material is discharged from the material hopper by way of the rotary valve 2, with the material discharge pipe 3 directed in the upstream direction relative to the direction of movement of the movable support, results in forming a punctiform deposit of material, and when the apparatus is turned through 180 DEG , that is to say, in the opposite direction to the direction of movement of the support 5, this gives a line of discharged material. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Apparatus for depositing plastic material in a point or line This invention relates to apparatus for depositing plastic material in a point or line of plastic material, preferably confectionery or bakery materials, wherein such materials can be dressed or dressed up on a moving support, in the form of a point and/or line configuration.
Apparatuses are known, such as in DD-WP 145999 'Steeping dough materials', DD-WP 137397 'Method of metering and distributing pasty heterogeneous covering and filling materials', DOS No 2442429 'Method and apparatus for dividing up and shaping portions of dough', and German Utility Models Nos 73 12 101/72 33 430, which perform a portioning and shaping operation by means of different nozzles, pipes and the like. Although such apparatuses permit quantitative metering, they suffer however from the disadvantage/defect that they do not produced dressing in the appropriate shape, with the desired design, and the dressing is only of unsightly appearance.
The aim of the invention is to carry out an operation of dressing pasty materials, in proper shape, in continuously operating installations.
The problem of the present invention is to produce a point or line dressing, by arranging the apparatus in various ways, relative to the direction of movement of a conveyor for the deposited material.
According to the present invention there is provided apparatus for depositing plastic materials, such as confectionery or bakery materials, as a point or line of material, comprising a housing having a material hopper, a cylinder for receiving material from the hopper, a piston in said cylinder and a discharge pipe extending from the cylinder, and a movable support for receiving material discharged from the discharge pipe, relative movement between the piston and cylinder causing material to be forced through the discharge pipe, said housing being movable between a first position in which the discharge pipe is directed upstream relative to the direction of movement of the movable support and moves in the direction of movement of the support so as to discharge material at a point on the support, and a second position disposed 1800 from the first position in which the discharge pipe is directed downstream relative to the direction of movement of the support so as to discharge material as a line of material on the support.
The material discharge pipe may be connected to the piston which is then of hollow configuration.
When the material discharge pipe is directed in the direction of the oncoming support, then using the same direction of piston movement relative to the support, the position of the nozzle of the material discharge pipe relative to the position of the support thus remains the same and this gives a point discharge of material. If the entire apparatus is turned through 1800, relative to the direction of movement of the support, so that the movement of the piston is opposite to the direction of movement of the moving support, then the shape of material formed is a line.
Two embodiments of the invention will now be described, by way of examples, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a first embodiment of aparatus according to the present invention Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of a second embodiment, in one position of use, and Figure 3 is a section simiiar to that of Figure 2 showing the apparatus in another position of use.
Figure 1 shows a combined housing with a material hopper 1, a rotary valve 2, a discharge pipe 3 an a piston 4. When the piston 4 moves out of the cylinder of the housing pasty material is sucked out of the material hopper 1 and the cylinder of the housing is filled. After the rotary valve 2 has been switched to the closed position, and therewith also the quantitative control, the piston 4, in moving forwards relative to the cylinder, can press the material through the material discharge pipe 3 on to a moving support 5. The material hopper 1 together with the cylinder can be moved relative to the piston 4.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the material discharge pipe 3 is connected to the piston 4 which is of hollow configuration, and acts as a piston rod. The material discharge pipe 3 in Figure 2 is shown as being arranged in the up-stream direction of the oncoming supports, that is to say, in the same direction as the movement of the piston 4. With the material discharge pipe 3 and the discharge nozzle thereof in this position, the discharge nozzle during discharge of material remains in the same position relative to a point on the moving support 5, in spite of the overall movement. This gives a genuine point discharge of material onto the support 5 and not an oval or elongate configuration.
If the entire apparatus is turned through 1800, as shown in Figure 3, the result is that the movement of the piston 4 is opposite to the direction of movement of the moving support 5, thus producing a line of discharge material. This arrangement can thus be used to form a longitudinally dressed pastry article such as an eclair. By virtue of this arrangment, the production line in the bakery such as confectionery lines are increased in their capacity and broadened in their assortment, without giving rise to additional costs for the manufacture of apparatuses for producing such bakery items.
