Abstract

209,942. Eastwood, C. J. Jan. 16, 1923. Prizing-tools; cramps. - A valve-spring lifter comprises a spring-compressing member 1 and a lever member 8, the former consisting of a bar having one end adapted to engage below the spring and the other end adapted to rest in a cross groove in the lever member. The member 1 is forked at its lower end 3 to engage the valve stem 12 and at its upper end is grooved at 6 for engagement with a groove 7 on the lever member S. Legs 10 are provided on the lower member so that one forms a fulcrum for the lever as the spring is compressed and the other can be placed to rest upon the cylinder top to hold the spring in compression. One of the legs 10 may be adjustable, as shown in Fig. 10, being clamped on the lever by a screw 21. Two or more grooves 7 may be provided on the lever member to suit different makes of engine, and the grooves may be made adjustable, as shown in Fig. 8, by a clamping screw 19.
