Abstract
392,989. Holding tools for assembling and dismantling cone valve-cotters. YATES, J., 2, File Street, Chorley, Lancashire. Dec. 11, 1931, No. 34322. [Class 61 (ii).] A tool for assembling split cones on overhead valves in internal-combustion engines comprises a spring-pressed plunger c, Fig. 1, spring fingers f and a removable member h, Fig. 3, fitting around the end of the spring-pressed plunger and maintained in position by the spring fingers f engaging grooves i. The member h may be removed and replaced by a member j, Figs. 6 and 7, for separating the split cones and extracting them. With the member b in position the cones are fitted by forcing them between this member and the spring fingers f, and thereupon the member h is pressed against the cage g, Fig. 6, to compress the valve spring and enable the cones to be pushed to the required position at which they engage the groove in the valve stem. In the operation of the tool with the member j in position, projections on the member separate the cones as the valve spring is compressed and on release of the pressure the cones emerge clear of the valve stem.
