Abstract

271,289. Owen, W. H. July 28, 1926. Prizing and holding tools.-In a valve compressor a clip is pivoted to the forked end of the operating lever or to a cradle or abutment member adapted to be seated on the forked end of the lever; when the spring has been compressed the clip is swung up so that projections thereon engage between the spring coils and maintain it in compressed condition, and in that form provided with a cradle the latter together with the clip and enclosed spring may be removed as a single unit. The cradle 5 is formed with lugs 7 and pivot pins 8 to engage slots 4 in the forked end of the lever 1, and the sides 10 of the clip have elongated holes 11 engaging the pivot pins. The upper part 12 of the clip terminates in forks 13 adapted to enter between the coils of the spring and has a thumb piece 14 for manipulating it. When the valve spring 6 has been compressed by depressing the levers about the pedestal 2 the clip is swung up enabling the spring, cradle and clip to be removed as a single unit as shown in Fig. 3. The sides of the clip may be adjustably connected to the cradle; in the construction of Fig. 8 the sides 10<a> of the clip have a number of holes 17 either of which may receive the pivot pins 8<a> on the brackets 5<b>, whilst in the construction of Fig 10 the sides 10<b> have a series of hooks 19 to engage the fulcrum pins 8<b>. The cradle 5 may be dispensed with, in which case the clip is pivoted to the forked end of the lever 1. In the modification shown in Fig. 11 the lever 1<a> is provided with a series of holes and the pedestal 20 with a series of holes 21 for adjustment of the fulcrum pin 22.
