Abstract

209,905. Bullivant, F. A., and Selby, G. M. Nov. 29, 1922. Shearing. - Wire cables &c. are severed by an apparatus comprising a frame having side wings G, suspended at two or more points as by cables F to prevent angular displacement, the cable to be severed being first lifted above or near to the surface of the water after which the apparatus is lowered and the cable guided by a projection a to the stationary cutter A. The cable is then severed by a fluidactuated cutter B which may be returned to the open position either by fluid pressure or by independent means such as a lever and pawl actuating a rack connected to the piston rod. A messanger rope H may be fitted to assist in positioning the apparatus after the cable has been guided between the cutters. Specification 17899/06, [Class 83 (iii), Metals, Cutting], is referred to.
