Abstract

208,463. Gumbley, E. A., and Paddock, H. S. J. March 28, 1923. Clinometers. - A clinometer for use, e.g. on aircraft or as a gradient indicator on a road or rail vehicle, comprises a pendulum weight 3 suspended in a casing 7, a normally horizontal guide rod 13 supported in the casing, a member 12 slidable on this rod and provided with pins 11 engaging in vertical slots 10 in the suspension bars 1, 2 of the pendulum, and means for indicating the inclination by the movement of the member 12. For this purpose the member 12 may be fitted with rollers 15 engaging a spirallytwisted bar 17 rotatably mounted in the casing and connected to a pointer 19 moving over a dial. The weight 3 moves in heavy oil in a reservoir of which the bottom 8 is curved to conform with the arc described by the pendulum.
