Abstract

208,282. Hancock, L. J., and Hancock, T. R. Oct. 6, 1922. Resistances; self-supporting.-In a furnace 1, which may be of the type described in Specification 190,222, heated by resistance rods 3 mounted in fixed supports 5 at or near their ends, wedges or like members 7 are inserted between the ends of the rods and their supports and are adapted to be forced into contact with the rods so as to exert radial pressure thereon. The wedge members may consist of split cones 7 forced into engagement with a conical seat in a block 4 and the rod 3 by a screw plug 8. The block 4 may be fitted with an adaptor 11. When carbon rods are used the cone 7, plug 8, and adaptor 11 may be provided with protective coatings 6, 10 and 12 respectively, as described in Specification 199,787.
