Pocket igniters, frictional. - In an igniter comprising a cap 2, carrying a pyrophoric stone 7 and slidably mounted on a member 1, which carries a friction member 6, and is cut away at 5 so that, on raising the cap, a spark is produced in a closed chamber 3 and ignites a piece of tinder 12 or the like, the cap 2 consists of a piece of flexible. metal coiled upon itself with overlapping edges to enable the degree of friction between the stone 7 and the friction member 6 to be regulated. The cap 2 may be given a slightly conical form and provided with a slidable clamping ring. A spring may be interposed between the stone 7 and the bottom of the recess 4. The friction member may be formed by a piece of a file forced into place, as an integral part of the lighter by bending the upper portion of the member 1 to form a projection 11, as shown in Fig. 6, or it may pass obliquely through the wall of the member 1, as shown in Fig. 5, and be acted upon by a spring 9 in a sleeve 10. The tinder 12 is mounted in a tube 13 and adjusted by means of a sleeve 14 provided with a claw passing through a helical, or longitudinal, groove 20 and engaging the tinder. A small wick lamp, containing absorbent material and filled with petrol, may be screwed into the member 1.
