Abstract

Centrifugal speed inclicators.-A series of readily-distinguishable parti-coloured balls is mounted in a prominent position on the vehicle and each ball is driven from the wheels through a clutch that is thrown out when the speed corresponding to the particular ball is attained. Each ball n is attached by an elastic coupling to a plate p that is shaped as shown in Fig. 2 or Fig. 3 to be engaged by lugs a depending from masses o. The masses o are guided in horizontal axes and rotate about a vertical axis being driven from wheels of the vehicle through a shaft q<2>, bevel wheels c<2>, c<1>, shaft q<1>, and horizontal guiding members j. The masses are also connected by links b to a sleeve t<1> provided at its upper end with a counterweight t bearing against an adjustable spring m. When the speed of rotation of a ball reaches the predetermined standard for that ball, the lugs a move clear of the plate p and sn permit the ball to come to rest. Each ball is formed in two halves, which alter being secured together by screws are also bound together by a sealed wire.
