Laminar springs.-In a laminar spring 1 secured between two pairs of narrow surfaces 7, 9 and 8, 10 so as to permit deflexion of that portion of the spring between the surfaces, the deflexion is resisted by a stress variable at will or automatically according to the deflexion of the spring as a whole. As shown in Fig. 4, the deflexion of the centre portion of the spring is controlled by a lever 14 pivoted at 15 to one of the securing members of the spring and carrying rollers 16, 17 engaging the main leaf 18, the lever being slotted to engage a pin 20 rigid with the spring. In a modification, the lever may carry a cam which bears on the centre portion of the spring, and a pair of such levers may be provided with cams bearing on the upper and lower faces of the spring. The levers may be connected to the suspended member instead of to the main leaf of the spring. In the modification shown in Fig. R, a link 23 pivoted to the spring at 24 carries a wedge 25 acting between a fixed roller 26 and a roller 27 on the spring. In the further modification shown in Fig. 10, a link 32 pivoted to the spring at 33 is connected to a pivoted cam 35 having surfaces 37, 38 adapted to engage a pin 39 on the spring. The spring is provided with a steady pin 11 guided in a bore 12. The invention is applicable to all kinds of laminar springs for vehicles and other purposes.
