Abstract

207,062. Babcock & Wilcox, Ltd., (Deutsche Babcock & Wilcox Dampfkessel- Werke Akt.-Ges.). Dec. 28, 1922. Pulverulent - fuel burners.- The fuel and air supply passages of a pulverulent - fuel furnace are arranged within a hollow openbottomed conical structure 2, Fig. 1, formed of refractory material bound bv a cast shell 3 of like conicitv and removably superposed on the combust i o n chamber 1. Fuel and air are introduced by a pipe 6 and opening 4 in which is arranged an adjustable deflecting cone 5. Air is also admitted to the interior of the cone through tangential nozzles such as 8 spaced from the base of the cone. In a modification, the stream of pulverulent fuel and air is supplied through radial nozzles and additional air is introduced axially at a low velocity. Fig. 4 shows a further modification in which the pulverized fuel is introduced through the opening 4 and encounters streams of air delivered through orifices 10 in the deflectors 5. Air is also supplied through passages 11 and slots 12 in the walls of thei cone. A stream of gas may be supplied through the passages 11 for starting purposes.
