Abstract

207,023. During, J. B. Nov. 9, 1922. Pea-boiling bags.-Peas or other vegetables are cooked by being supported in an open-work bag disposed above water in a saucepan so that the bottom of the bag is very close to the level of the water. The cooking is then effected partly by the steam and partly by the bubbles formed which rise up through the vegetables. In the construction shown, a bag of cotton stockinette is sewn or gummed between strips d, e of thin cardboard &c. forming a rim which may be treated to make it fireproof, the rim being supported outside the mouth of the pan and tied to the handle. The bag may be of strong cotton or twine &c., and may be supported from the mouth of the pan or from the lid by tapes, or a metal rim, or metal clips, or cross-pieces bridging the pan may be employed.
