Abstract

206,585. Grange Iron Co., Ltd., and Hoyle, H. P. Aug. 8, 1922. Density separators; charging and feeding. - Apparatus for separating solids and liquids or two liquids comprises a centrifugal distributor f, a rotating vessel q surrounding the distributor, and a worm r carried by the distributor and rotating at a different speed from that of the vessel for discharging the material deposited thereon. The lighter material is discharged from passage u. The upper part of the distributor shaft h is hollow and driven by a pulley i, and the lower part of the shaft k has a pinion l driving a double pinion which in turn drives a pinion o carried by a sleeve p on the base-plate t which carries the vessel q. Thrust discs A, and bearings B are provided between the shaft k and base-plate t and the latter and the fixed plate w, and ball-bearings C are provided between the sleeve l and the plate w. Lubrication is effected by a centrifugal pump D driving lubricant from the well E up a longitudinal passage F in the shaft k and through lateral openings therein. The material is fed to the apparatus from a hopper a with an adjustable valve g and agitators b worked 'by a handle d.
