Abstract

270,066. Allgemeine Kommerz Ges. Akt.-Ges., and Mannesmann, A. March 30, 1926. Addition to 269,993. Density separators; spreading solids. - The solid and liquid constituents of peat or lignite as specified in the parent Specification are separated by rotating discs to which the material is fed; the discs are provided with convexities or obstacles against which the material impinges and the solid constituents are thrown varying distances from the disc while the liquid constitutes are vaporized . The hopper 1 for the reception of the material is supported by the frame 2 over the centre of the disc 3 the upper side of which is concave and is provided with ribs 4. The disc is carried by the shaft 6 driven through bevel gearing by the motor 11. Annular troughs 12, 14, 15 constructed of concrete or metal are arranged round the disc for the reception of constitutents of different densities. A bar 26, connected to a loose ring 25 on the shaft is joined rigidly to the armature of an electric motor 31 with rotatable field magnets. By means of the toothed wheel 30 the motor travels round the apparatus on a rack 34 and a rail 33. The scrapers 27, 28, 29 on the bar 26 are thus carried round the troughs 12, 14, 15 and the deposited solids are discharged through funnels 19, 20, 21 on to conveyer bands 22, 23, 24. In the modified form of apparatus shown in Fig. 3, the discs 38, 39 are carried by the spindle 40 while the discs 37, 48, 49 are carried by the sleeve 43 which also carries a feed screw 45 and blades 46, 47. The discs 37, 48, carry inclined flat members to accelerate the outward movement of the material fed forward by the screw 45 and blades 46, 47. The same discs also have pegs or obstacles 51 to split up the material. The other discs have pegs 52, 53, 54 upon which the material impinges as it travels outward. The spindle 40 and the sleeve 43 with their attached discs are rotated in opposite direcions at the same or different speeds by the motor 65 through bevel gearing. The discs are shaped so that the passage outwards has a decreasing cross-sectional area. Where the liquid constituents are vaporized openings 67 may be provided for the escape of the vapour and they may have shields, or the upper discs may be replaced by rings connected to the hubs by spokes.
