Abstract

206,094. West, F. J. April 16, 1923. Electrodes; separators; supports. - Electrodes of a storage battery are provided at their vertical edges with lugs which extend through supporting plates 18, Fig. 1, common to the electrodes and are fastened by pins passing through the lugs outside the plates. Each plate may have upper and lower lugs 3, 4 at one end and an intermediate lug 6 at the other end, the positive and negative plates being oppositely arranged so that their lugs are staggered at each end. The supporting plates 18 may be of celluloid, and are channelled to receive the edges of the grids 21, Fig. 2. On the outer side of each supporting plate 18 are formed rows of fins 23 separating the lugs 3, 4, 6 and slotted to receive the celluloid pins 25 threaded through the lugs. Terminal lugs at the top of the plates are attached to bars 16, 17. Each positive plate is enclosed by perforated celluloid sheets lined with asbestos and united at the edges by channelshaped strips. The sheets may be connected by celluloid rivets and also bv celluloid ferrules within central holes in the plates. Through thecentral holes passes a pin having at one end a head and at the other a U-shaped fastening clip 28.
