Abstract

205,583. Lennox, P., and Calder, Sir J. C. July 21, 1922. Surface carburettors.-A carburettor comprises a T-shaped receptacle 2 filled with a packing material 3 which is saturated with liquid fuel, some or all of the sides of the vertical section being composed of a porous material and projecting into a bath 1 containing water or a mixture of water and fuel, and means comprising an air inlet 4 and slide-valve 6 positioned above the level of the bath for passing a regulated supply of air through the packing material. The liquid is admitted to the bath 1 through an inlet pipe 7, the level of liquid being maintained constant and out of contact with the horizontal sections of the receptacle 2 by a float-valve, 8, while the gas outlet pipe 10 is provided with a gauze filter 11. A heating coil 9 is fitted on each side of the vertical section of the receptacle 2 and these coils are connected, when the carburettor is used in conjunction with an internal-combustion engine, to the cooling system of the engine.
