Abstract

204,598. Dawson, S. E., and Ferranti, Ltd. Nov. 25, 1920. Alloys.-A practically non-magnetic iron alloy having high electrical resistance, and having the properties of cast iron as regards behaviour to tools and in the foundry, is made by adding to grey cast iron a metal such as manganese which reduces the magnetic susceptibility and one or more additions to secure machinability. The alloy may contain, for example, 85 per cent of cast iron, 5 per cent of manganese and 10 per cent of nickel; or 90 per cent of cast iron, 5 per cent of manganese and 5 per cent of nickel; or part of the nickel may be replaced by copper; or up to 1 per cent of aluminium may be included. Specifications 7422/96, 24705/96, 8699/14, and 126,362 are referred to.
