Thrashing-machines.-A machine for thrashing grain and disintegrating the straw comprises a shaft 6 carrying beaters 7 spaced from fixed members 8 on an enclosing drum 11 with which the beaters coact. The beaters 7 at the inlet and thrashing end of the machine I are short to allow the material under treatment to pass round without damaging the grain. Towards the outlet end the beaters are longer to cut or break up the straw and intermesh with the fixed members, which may be either pins 8 or short projecting plates helically arranged. The beaters 7, Fig. 4, are of twisted spring steel removably and adjustably secured to the shaft by collars 34 and carrying removable roughened shoes 37, and are helically arranged, the pitch of the helix being varied by separately adjusting the beaters. The bottom of the casing 11 is formed of removable sieves. 17. If the sieve at the inlet end only of the machine is fitted, the others being removed, the grain is thrashed and the straw delivered whole. A shaking sieve 24 separates the grain from the straw and delivers it to a winnowing- device 25. The sieve 24 is operated from the shaft of the winnowing fan 22.
