Abstract

203,257. Harley, H. G. Dec. 22, 1922. Cylinders, cooling.-The cooling system is connected to a heat retaining vessel v by a pipe c and sometimes a pipe a. The whole of the water may be drained through the pipe a and valve b, or a part of it, namely that which is in the jackets or the upper part of the jackets and radiator may be withdrawn through the pipe c and kept hot for starting. But the water is always returned through the pipe c which is so situated that the water enters the jackets at points as remote as possible from the radiator. The water is raised into the jackets and retained there by air pressure in the vessel v. The pipe a may communicate with the bottom of the cylinder jackets or the lower pipe which connects them with the radiator. Stop valves d, e are provided.
