Wheeled trucks; air, controlling circulation of, -Relates to a method of and apparatus for drying material according to which the material is conveyed on a string of cars 1, Fig. 1, alternately through heating and cooling chambers 8, 9 and 6, 11 respectively, and consists in the feature that at the places, for example 10, 17, where the material is leaving the heating chambers, cold air from the cooling chambers is introduced into the heating chambers and is heated by its passage over the material, the cars being advanced intermittently through the chambers a distance, which is a multiple of the length of one of the cars. The cars are provided with front walls having dampers 19, Fig. 3, which permit of cold air entering the heating chambers at the places where the cars leave them, but which prevent the admission of air at the places, such as 7, 16, where the cars enter the heating chambers. In a modification, the cars are provided with closed rear walls which prevent the admission of air into the heating chambers at the places where the cars enter them. During its passage through the heating chambers, the material is subjected by fans 22, Fig. 2, to oppositely-directed transverse currents of air.
