Abstract

A jet pump comprises a chamber with two ejector nozzles B, C opening towards respective opposite open ends of the chamber. By means of fluid selectively supplied to the nozzles through respective valves 2, 3 the pump can operate in either direction without any moving parts of the pump being involved in the selection. The pump is applicable to ballasting and deballasting operations in ships, in which case one end is connected by a sea valve 1 to the exterior and the other end opens near the bottom of the ballast tank through a valve 4. <IMAGE>
