Abstract

A detergent feeding device for incorporation in a clothes washing machine in order to introduce detergents or other additives into washing or rinsing water introduced into the machine at appropriate points in its programme cycle comprises a drawer (1) arranged at the front of the machine and having a plurality of compartments (6, 8) for receiving additives. One compartment (6) has at the bottom rear thereof an opening (42) bounded by an upright tube (41) which is shrouded by a hood member (43) coaxial therewith. The tube (41) and hood (43) define an outlet passage for water passing from the feeding device to the machine. Each compartment of the drawer (1) has an individual cover (36) adapted to direct water from an individual inlet (19) to the compartment. Between the inlet (19) and the opening to the cover (36) is arranged a swinging flap (30) having an opening (31). When the drawer (1) is closed the flap (30) is held in the position wherein its opening (31) is aligned with the water inlet (19). When the drawer (1) is opened, the flap (30) falls under its own weight into a position wherein it prevents entry of water from the inlet (19) into the space for the drawer, and deflects the water directly downwards into the washing machine. <IMAGE>
