901,388. Washing-machines. HEDLEY & CO. Ltd., THOMAS. Oct. 4, 1960 [Oct. 6, 1959], No. 34042/60. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XVIII] A measuring device for granular detergent is mounted on the underside of the lid 12 of a washing-machine and has a storage chamber 34 from which detergent flows over a baffle 36 into a measuring chamber 35 when the lid 12 is opened and a hinged door 39 which, at the proper time in the washing cycle with the lid closed, is opened to discharge the contents of the measuring chamber into the washing- machine. The door is opened by a rod 54 which is moved to engage a member 53 on the door hinge 40 when a solenoid is energized by the timing mechanism of the washing-machine. A lid 22 provides access to the storage chamber and a sharp edge 41 on the door 39 bears on a gasket 42 to ensure vapour tightness of the measuring chamber. Means are provided for varying the capacity of the measuring chamber (see Group XVIII).
