Abstract

A drive device for imparting consecutive feed movements at two different speeds to a slide comprises a spindle and nut gearing 19; 9 of which the nut 9 carries the slide and the spindle 19 is driven, for rapid feed of the slide, by a hydraulically operated pawl and ratchet wheel mechanism 12;4. A first helical gear 5 is secured to the ratchet wheel 4 and meshes with a second helical gear 6 which has a braking cone 14 and which is guided freely rotatable and axially slidable on a rod 7 operatively connected to a first hydraulic cylinder 1. The helical gear 6 with the braking cone 14 is urged into the braking position by means of a compression spring 15 and the brake is released by means of the rod 7 upon actuation of the cylinder 1 by a working fluid. The actuation of cylinder 1 also causes a connecting pipe 17 for the working fluid to be opened in order to actuate a second hydraulic cylinder 2 operatively connected to a push rod 18 on which the pawl 12 is pivotably mounted. The actuation of cylinder 2 causes the spindle 19 to be driven via the pawl and ratchet wheel mechanism and the slide to be moved at rapid feed. On completion of the rapid feed the two hydraulic cylinders 1;2 are de- pressurised whereby the brake 14 is applied to the ratchet wheel 4 and the push rod 18 is returned to its initial position by the action of respective springs 15;21, whereupon the thrust piston drive 11 is actuated to rotate the nut 9 and impart a slow feed to the slide. <IMAGE>
