Reservoir pens.-In a selffilling reservoir pen of the type provided with a piston slidable to a limited extent on the piston-rod and formed with openings which are closed by a valve during the suction stroke, the piston-rod is mounted in the nib end of the reservoir, and is adapted to be held against movement while the reservoir is reciprocated relatively thereto, a spring being provided to effect the return movement. A nozzle 2 screws into the forward end of the reservoir 1, and is closed at its inner end by a plug 5, through a central passage in which a piston-rod 3 slides, the rod being prevented from detachment by the engagement of a pin 6 in the member 5 with a slot 7 therein. The rod 3 carries the nib and feedbar at its upper end, and near its lower end is formed with a valve 9 slidable in the reservoir and provided with a number of peripheral notches. A washer 11 mounted above the valve normally closes the passage through the member 5. An extension 3' of the rod 3 passes through a piston 12 which is prevented from detachment by a pin. The rear end of the reservoir is formed with a seat for a valve 18 normally held closed by a member 21 screwing into a covering-cap 19. To fill the pen, the member 21 is loosened, the nib and the end of the nozzle 2 are immersed in ink, and the reservoir is pushed down against the action of the spring 4, which surrounds the rod 3, to force the valve 9 against the piston and close the passage therethrough. The piston is then pushed inwards to draw in ink, the compressed air escaping through the valve 18. On the completion of the stroke, the reservoir is returned by the spring 4, the valve 9 first uncovering the passage through the piston and the ink flowing through the notches in the valve into the reservoir. In writing, the nib is pushed on to the paper to cause the passage through the member 5 to be uncovered and allow ink to flow. When out of use, a cap 23 is screwed on to the nib end of the pen, the nib being forced inwardly by a pin and the opening of the nozzle is closed by a washer 24. In a modification, the piston 12 is slidably mounted on a U-shaped member fixed to the valve 9.
