Abstract

The invention relates to carriage- type drawing machines in which two draw carriages (1,2) having jaw systems (9) are drawn backwards and forwards to draw for example tube from a drawing tool (4) alternately gripping and releasing the tube by means of jaws (62). The carriages are commonly driven by cams, either directly or indirectly, but all the systems of the prior art have had a carriage stroke severely limited by the cams. The present invention contemplates a lever system which enables the use of cams of relatively small pitch to achieve carriage strokes of much greater length. According to the invention each draw carriage (1,2) is coupled by means of a two-armed lever (12,13) to a cam (30,32,101) driven by a drive shaft (31,33,100), rotation of the drive shaft affecting the requisite alternate motion of the carriages (1,2). <IMAGE>
