Abstract

An anode comprises a composite of lead or a lead alloy and magnetite in which small particles of magnetite are dispersed in a matrix of lead or a lead alloy eg with Ag, Sb, Te or Se. A process for making the composite anode comprises mixing and compacting together a powder of magnetite and a lead or lead alloy powder under sufficient pressure to achieve at least partial sintering on the surfaces of the contacting particles of the mixed powders. Pt microelectrodes may be inserted into the surface of the composite. The anode is suitable for use in cathodic protection and other electrolytic processes.
