Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve defoaming of the gas produced, make possible high current density operation and prevent the rise in decomposition overvoltage by using the Ni- made sponge form porous material baked with Ni powder of super fine particles as an anode for water electrolysis.
CONSTITUTION: Sponge form porous material as a three-dimensional irregular net- form structure having open cells 2 with porosities of more than 90% is made of Ni or Ni alloy. Super fine particle form Ni or Ni alloy powder of 500Å or under in mean particle size is kneaded by a caking agent and coated on the skeleton surfaces of this porous material. The one prepared by dissolving nitrocellulose, alginic acid or other which thermally decomposes at a low temperature of 100°C with an organic solvent to slurry form is used as the caking agent. This is baked at a temperature below 500°C to let the Ni powder be fusion deposited on the porous skeletons 1. This material as anode has extremely large surface areas, permits the use of high current density at the electrolyzing of akalikine electrolyte, allows easy defoaming of the produced gas bubbles and will not therefore cause the rise in decomposition overvoltage.
