Abstract

In a thermostat comprising a permanent magnet 14 movable, in response to a temperature change sensed by a fixed magnetic sensor 10, and against the force of a spring 4, to actuate switch contacts 35, 36, the permanent magnet 14 comprises material having a maximum energy product of at least 50 kilojoules per cubic metre, an air gap exists between the permanent magnet 14 and the sensor 10 at all times, the spring force is adjustable when the air gap is at a minimum, and the maximum air gap is adjustable. <IMAGE>
