Abstract

An optical system for an endoscope comprises an objective system including a stop S (Fig. 1) for focussing light on the front end P of an optical fibre bundle B arranged to transmit the image and including a zero power lens G4 provided before the stop S. The zero power lens may be a plane parallel-sided plate and acts to refract the light whereby the diameter of the front lens G1 and hence of the endoscope may be reduced. <IMAGE>
