Abstract

A measuring probe for the electrochemical determination of the oxygen potential of a furnace atmosphere comprises an oxygen-ion- conducting solid electrolyte (1) connected to two electrodes (2, 3). One electrolyte (2) is in contact with a reference gas, such as air, and the other electrode (3) is arranged to be alternately in contact with the furnace atmosphere and a non-carburizing, preferably carbonizing, scavenging gas, fed via tube 4. The potential across the electrolyte (1) is used to determine the oxygen potential of the furnace atmosphere. <IMAGE>
