Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform measurement for a long time, by interposing a partition wall of a solid electrolyte between a pair of electrodes, placing one end of the wall in contact with a reference gas and placing the other end in contact with a measured gas.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of porous nickel electrodes 2, 3 are provided on the inside and outside surfaces of a partition wall 1 which is made of a solid electrolyte and shaped as a cylinder, one end of which is closed. The partition wall 1 is secured by a casing 4 on the wall of a furnace such as a combustion furnace or a heat treatment furnace so that one end of the partition wall 1 projects into the furnace and the other end is open under the air. Lead wires 6, 7 are connected to a voltmeter 8. An electromotive force is caused due to the oxygen partial pressure of a reference gas and a measured gas. The electromotive force is measured by the voltmeter 8.
