Abstract

An improved apparatus for determining the time rate of attrition of a mass of solid particles comprising a chamber defined by walls 12, 14, 16 and a hopper 18; inlet 36 and outlet 34 providing for entrance and exit of the particles to the chamber; a conduit 38 providing communication between the inlet and outlet; an impeller 20, 22 located in the chamber to urge solid particles from the inlet in the general direction of the sidewall of the chamber and from thence to the outlet 34; and a motor 26 to provide rotation of the impeller. Information about solid particle attrition in commercial cyclone separators is obtained by measuring various parameters such as speeds and sizes of the particles during the test. <IMAGE>
