Abstract

A roller-type coal cutting device has water spray nozzles on its periphery and these nozzles are operated selectively so that only the nozzles disposed in the region of the roller actually engaging the coal face are supplied with water and operate. To simplify the construction and improve reliability, the device employs a ring 16 which is provided with bores 25 and a water- distribution arcuate channel 21. The ring 16 surrounds the hub 12 of the roller 10, is positionally adjustable and is engaged by seals 26, 27. The hub 12 rotates within the ring 16 to pick up water from the channel 21. The hub 12 then conveys water through further connections, including bores 14, 15, to the nozzles 11 in question. A bearing ring 17 surrounds the ring 16 and conveys water from an external connector 20 to the channel 21. <IMAGE>
