Abstract

An evaporator comprises pairs of spaced plates, each pair defining an evaporating passage 112 which is heated indirectly by condensing fluid and which is closed at its entry and by a member 14 through which extends a feed pipe 13 for the liquid to be evaporated, the feed pipe terminating in a sparge pipe 12. Such an apparatus removes the danger of contamination of condensate of the heating fluid. <IMAGE>
