Abstract
Disclosed is a radial internal combustion engine comprising a set of reciprocating pistons radially arranged about a central axis, the pistons forming segments of a circle. A resilient band runs about the outer perimeter of the circle and at least one cog or sprocket wheel is arranged to mesh with the resilient band and is connected by an arm to a central shaft located along the central axis. When the pistons are fired in sequence each piston causes the band to expand radially outward on its expansion stroke and the cog or sprocket wheel is forced to travel around the perimeter of the resilient band thereby rotating the central shaft which rotates a fly wheel for power take off. When the engine is in use the motion of the pistons causes the resilient band to form a rotating oval or elliptical shape and the tension in the band remains constant.
