Gas is drawn in to the cylinder F when the end D<1> of a tube D connected to the cylinder F registers with an opening E in the rotor; after compressing the gas the piston is held stationary for a time by a lock arm 2 on a bell-crank lever L which is released by a cam J. The gases are fired by a plug on the rotor B and impinge on recesses B<4>, finally exhausting through openings B<5> which may be fitted with blades S. The tube D may be fitted with a rotary valve and may also have means such as a screw plunger for varying the combustion space. Cowls Q may be provided to supply cooling air. Oil jackets may also be provided.
