Abstract

Injection apparatus for spark ignition internal combustion engines includes an electromagnetic injector 26 mounted upstream of a throttle valve 24 with its spray tip end 26a positioned to inject fuel toward the throttle bore wall 21. Annular fuel well 52 communicates with the interior of the fuel injector via ports 50, 51 and receives fuel from a low pressure pump; excess fuel returns to a supply tank via pressure regulator 60 connected in fuel return passage 68, 91. Passages 95, 97 vent fuel vapor from the fuel inlet passage to the fuel return passage. The amount of fuel entering the injector housing is substantially greater than the fuel discharge into the throttle bore 21 by an amount sufficient to effect cooling of the injector 26 so as to avoid substantial fuel vaporization. <IMAGE>
