Abstract

A throttle body having an air induction bore 16 controlled by a throttle valve 20 has an integrally formed injector jacket 48 mounting an electromagnetically actuated injector 10 upstream of the throttle valve and concentrically with the induction bore to provide a conical spray directed at the wall of the bore. The injector 10 includes an intermittently actuated needle (242), Fig. 7 (not shown), attached to the armature (230) of a solenoid (214). The needle (242) seats between inlets (250, 252) and an outlet orifice (253) of a valve housing (240) which is inserted into a fuel accumulation chamber 32 defined by the jacket 48. Seals (64, 68) are provided between the valve housing (240) and jacket 48 to seal the chamber 32 and to provide for quickly mounting or removing the injector 10. The pressure from a lower pressure pump is maintained substantially constant in the chamber 32 by a pressure regulating valve (37), Fig. 6 (not shown), between the chamber and the fuel tank. Respective injectors (8, 10), Fig. 5 (not shown), are mounted in respective induction bores (14, 16) to be connected to the manifold openings of respective engine cylinder banks. The inlets to the needle chamber may take various forms, Figs. 8 to 21 (not shown). <IMAGE>
