Abstract

A heat exchanger for heating the windscreen washing water of an automobile windscreen washer comprises a tubular casing (1) containing a heater tube coil (7). The coil (7) is situated in a portion (2) of largest diameter of the casing (1) and to enable the casing (1) to be connected with hoses of different diameters in a cooling system of the engine of the automobile, the casing (1) is stepped down at each end to two connector portions (5, 6) of successively decreasing diameters. To provide optimum flow of the water of the cooling system through the casing (1), the steps (3) between the largest diameter portion (2) and the adjacent portions (5) are of a radial extent substantially equal to the diameter of the tube forming the heater tube coil. <IMAGE>
