Roller mills.-Sugar-cane mills are provided with solid headstocks a bored to receive adjustable eccentric bearings f for the shafts of the rollers, the spaces between the rollers being adjusted by rotating the bearings. The bearings or bushes f are provided with flanges h having a series of gaps i with which engage the jaws of spanners j removably mounted on bolts on the headstocks. To adjust the rollers b, d with respect to the top roller c, the bolt k is removed and the spanner j withdrawn from the gaps i and inserted in the gaps above or below and the eccentric bush rotated until the hole in the spanner again registers with the bolt hole, whereupon the bolt k is reinstated to lock the parts in position. Marks may be provided on the flanges h to register with marks on the housings and indicate the distances between the rollers. The outside ends of the eccentric bearings on one side of the mill are prolonged to carry the idle driving-gearing l, l<3> and m, m<1>. The wheel l gears with a wheel l<1> on the driving-shaft l<2>, and the pinion m<1> gears with a wheel m<3> on the shaft of the top roller c, while a pinion on the other end of the latter shaft gears with pinions m<2> on the shafts of the rollers b, d. In a modification, the flanges h are provided with worm-wheels gearing with worms on hand-shafts carried by the headstocks.
