Abstract
199,447. Jackson, A. J. March 20, 1922. Lasts.-A repairer's variable last comprises a body portion 1 the upper surface of which lies approximately in the plane of the waist of the last, a reversible double fore-part unit 2 in the form of a " U " providing different sizes of foreparts, and a reversible, double heel part unit 3. One of the units may be spring-controlled away from the body to facilitate, positioning of the shoe and to allow adjustment for length. A latch 22 is provided to lock the spring-controlled parts in desired position, the latch being pivoted on an eccentric 23 rotated by a square 25 for length adjustment. The eccentric may also 'be used to determine whether or not a gravity pawl 30 is to lock the latch. The fore-part unit is retained by a cotter 9. A plate 34 covers the gap caused by extension of the last, and is held in position by a tongue 36 engaging an aperture in a part 35 bent out of the plate 34.
