Abstract
198,441. Gray, T. F. March 3, 1922. Casings; making, processes for. -Valve casings are constructed of a number of wrought steel tubular sections welded together, the seating surfaces being carried by a removable bush or sleeve inserted into the casing through one of the valve passages. The casing. Fig 1, is formed from a length of wrought steel pipe a, enlarged at the upper end and welded to another pipe a<1>. Flanges a<2>, a<3> are then welded to the pipes, and the cover b welded to the top of the pipe a. The seat c is screwed into a sleeve d, the flanged end of which is flush with the flange a<2>. The valve and seating may be withdrawn through the lower end of the casing. In an application to a sluice valve, Fig. 2, the valve rings h slide on opposed seating rings c mounted in sleeves d. The valve f is in two parts carried by a bridle k which is prevented from rotating. The casing is constructed from a vertical tube a closed at the bottom and welded to horizontal flanged tubes and to a cover b.
