Abstract
197,181. Dunkley, W. H. April 27, 1922. Motor-cycles, tricars, and the like; cycle tractor and like propelling attachments.-In a perambulator combined with a wheeled motor propelling attachment, a platform or seat for the attendant and a power unit are mounted independently of one another and are attached to the perambulator underframe. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the platform 6 is supported at one end by a wheel 12 and is attached at the other end by a flexible joint to the rear axle 1 of the perambulator. A power unit consisting of a small internal combustion engine 4, a wheel 5, and a fuel tank 14 is attached to the front axle of the perambulator. In a modification, the wheel 12 is dispensed with and the platform is supported entirely from the perambulator underframe. The front wheels are in this form mounted on swivelling axles and steered by an inclined column from the rear platform. In further modifications, the power unit with its supporting wheel is arranged behind the perambulator, or the power unit is supported on the perambulator centrally between the wheels or at one side and down one of the perambulator wheels. The platform or seat may be arranged at the side of and entirely supported by the perambulator. In a further modification, the perambulator body, the platform and a motor driving a wheel are carried by a frame supported upon two wheels at one side and a single wheel at the other side. In the construction shown in Fig. 9, the perambulator body 54<a>, the attendant's seat 63 and the power unit 57 are mounted upon a frame 56 carried by two rear wheels and a single front wheel 62 driven from the motor. The motor drives through a chain and a pulley 58 which engages the tyre of the wheel 62 when the foot lever 59 is depressed, the gear being disengaged by a spring 61. In a modification of this construction adapted to run in the opposite direction, the motor drives the single wheel by a chain.
