Abstract

196,788. Campbell, F. A. April 3, 1922. Lawn-mowers.-Laterally reciprocating knifebars 45, 46 are operated by crank pins 35, 34 engaging the sides of vertical slots in brackets 39, 38 secured to the knife bars, the crank pins being mounted on pinions driven from the main carrying wheels of the machine. The carrying- wheels 15 are provided with internal teeth which mesh with pinions on a transverse shaft 23 driving a longitudinal shaft 26 through bevel-gear. The shaft 26 carries a pinion 28 engaging the pinions 30, 31 bearing the crank pins 34, 35. Covering plates are provided to protect the gearing. The height of cut is adjusted by varying the vertical position of rollers 51, 52 carried on a frame 47, 48 which is pivoted on the main axle 10 of the machine and is adapted to be clamped in the desired position to the stationary plates 6, 7 forming the gear-cases of the side wheels. Stops 61, 62 limit the inclination of the handle 60.
