Abstract

195,300. Wild, M. B., and Wild & Co., Ltd., M. B. May 20, 1922. Universal joints.-In flexible shaft couplings, adapted to allow limited universal movement and to insulate the coupled shafts in electrically-driven machinery, alternately-disposed claws c, d on coupling-members a, b are recessed to carry rubber pads e, which are secured in place in pairs by detachable plates f and are themselves recessed to take the lugs h of steel face-blocks g. These blocks have each a shallow concavity i, in which seats a steel ball j of smaller radius held against displacement by a spring k, serving also to keep the blocks g in position. Preferably the member a has secured to it a thin metal casing l, the member b being of slightly smaller diameter to allow universal movement without fouling the casing.
