Abstract

Cylinders and valve chests, cooling.-Lubricating oil is pumped from the crank case to a receptacle 10 surrounding the upper end of the cylinder, whence it is ejected against the outer surface of the cylinder 1 and valve chest 16. The cylinder wall may form one side of the receptacle 10. The oil falls upon the moving parts in the crank case, which conduct away its heat, but to prevent an excess of oil from being thrown up inside the cylinder an inclined trough may surround the bottom of the cylinder and guide the oil clear of the crank.
